Research Shows Cable MSO and Mobile Carriers Have
Higher
Market Share with Recent Movers

FRANCISCO--April 17, 2007--According to Telephia's
Total Communications Survey for Q4 2006, recent movers--those
who have moved residences in the past year--are more
likely to subscribe to a home phone service from a cable
MSO, mobile carrier or VoIP provider. Overall, 49 percent
of households who have moved recently have chosen non-traditional
residential phone options. Twenty-five percent have
opted for wireless only; thirteen percent have chosen
a cable phone option; and six percent have switched
to a VoIP phone service (see Table 1).

Demographically,
recent-mover households tend to be young and to have
a lower overall household income than households that
have not moved recently. However, they do spend a higher
proportion of their income on communications and entertainment
services.
"Movers
tend to consider all available connectivity options
in an unconstrained purchase environment. They also
represent an opportunity for providers to land long-term
customers who probably won't make a switch until the
next move," said Christianne Pang , product director,
Telephia. "Our carrier clients regard this segment
as an important early indicator of market share shifts
so Telephia is developing a number of research tools
to track behaviors and decision drivers among recent
movers."
Findings
from Telephia's Total Communications Survey is based
on a monthly survey of 7,000 U.S. households across
102 metropolitan markets and provides comprehensive
coverage of consumer attitudes and behavior around wired
voice, VoIP, mobile, Internet, and TV products.
